We at JamesEdition know that the process of seeking the right supercar to park in your garage can take more than 20 months – and in some cases, it can last for a few years. To sum up our experience, we decided to start a new section to help car hunters compare some of the most sought-after cars for sale. In this first review, we take a close look at Koenigsegg vs. Bugatti vs. Pagani: the three brands focused on manufacturing only high-performance cars that come in very limited series.

For our first comparison, we selected the three latest models produced in 2020.

The Regera, although a hybrid car and a grand touring alternative to the rest of Koenigsegg’s lightweight sports car lineup, is one of the most powerful and fastest-accelerating cars produced by Koenigsegg.

Chiron Sport Noir, in its turn, is a special-edition model based on the $12.5 million, jaw-dropping La Voiture Noire introduced at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

And a brand-new Huayra Roadster is a rare opportunity to buy an open-top Pagani; only four of them are on the resale market right now.

Now, let’s more closely examine the cars’ attributes, from prices to performance.

Price

2020 Koenigsegg Regera: estimated price – $4,000,000+.The Regera comes with a “price on request” tag, but we can assume that the figure can be more than $4 million as the 2019 Regera with 0 km on the odometer sells for $3,905,685.

2020 Bugatti Chiron Sport Noir: estimated price – $4,350,000+.The Chiron also has a “price on request,” but the price from the manufacturer, according to open sources, started at $3.3 million. And the selling price might be even higher than the $4.35 million that is asked of the limited 2020 Chiron 110 Ans.

2020 Pagani Huayra Roadster: $3,496,011.The car was put up for sale in the United Kingdom, has had only one owner, and has 60 km on the odometer.

Performance

2020 Koenigsegg Regera: top speed – 403 km/h (250 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 2.6 sec,0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 10.9 sec.An interesting attribute to know about Regera’s hybrid engine is that it generates the highest power only at high RPM (revolutions per minute); and, due to the fixed gear, this power corresponds to very high speeds. In 2019, the Regera set a new 0-400-0 km/h world record with only 22.87 seconds to accelerate to 400 km/h. Its power at low speeds, however, might not be as impressive, since it’s only filled in by electric motors.

2020 Bugatti Chiron Sport Noir: top speed – 420 km/h (261 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 2.4 sec, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 13.6 sec.Bugatti won its constant performance competition with Koenigsegg, in terms of its maximum speed and time of acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph). Koenigsegg, however, proved itself better at its highest speeds, and included a more innovative engine construction.

2020 Pagani Huayra Roadster: top speed – 383 km/h (238 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 2.8 sec, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 20.8 sec. A 6.0 L (366.1 cu. in.) twin-turbocharged V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG specially for Huayra, this roadster has the power output of a 764 PS (562 kW; 754 hp). The Huayra features a seven-speed sequential gearbox and a single-disc clutch, instead of a dual-clutch; that helps to reduce the vehicle’s weight.

2. Iconic trio: 2011 Koenigsegg Agera vs. 2011 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport vs. 2013 Pagani Huayra

The Agera R, Veyron Super Sport, and the classic Huayra left traces not only on the world’s top race tracks but also in the hearts of car enthusiasts. All three cars have a history of being named “Hypercar of the Year” by Top Gear magazine, were featured in the Need for Speed franchise, and some of them appeared in the 2014 Need for Speed film.

It’s not easy to select a definitive winner from among these supercars, but we’ll give it a try.

2011 Koenigsegg Agera R: $2,304,060.The car is in perfect condition with a body covered by matt protection film. The film can be removed (without leaving any residue) before delivery. Another perk is a two year factory warranty.

2011 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: $2,760,009.This Veyron has only covered 1,600 km (1,000 mi.) from the time it was new and boasts stunning Sang Noir body paint with exposed carbon details and burnt orange hide.

2013 Pagani Huayra: $2,550,000.A rare White Edition, this Huayra with less than 1,000 km (620 mi.) on the odometer is a two-owner car and recently received extensive service to be mechanically ready for its next custodian.

2011 Koenigsegg Agera R: top speed – 439 km/h (273 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph)- 2.8 sec,0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 14.53 sec.The Agera has a 5.0 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine (838 kW / 1,139 PS; 1,124 hp) with an upgraded (and very convenient for daily use) fuel management system that allows it to run 95 Octane and E100 biofuel or any mix in between. The car adjusts the engine’s operation “on the fly.”

2011 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: top speed – 431 km/h (268 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph)- 2.46 sec, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 14.6 sec.The Super Sport is a faster and more powerful version of the Veyron 16.4 (8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16 and 883 kW /1,201 PS; 1,184 hp), and one of the fastest, street-legal production cars in the world. The title of fastest, street-legal car produced has alternated between Bugatti and Koenigsegg in the past few years.

2013 Pagani Huayra: top speed – 383 km/h (238 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph)- 2.8 sec.,0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 20.8 sec.Perhaps the Huayra shows a less impressive race-track-style performance compared with Bugatti and Koenigsegg, but how often do you accelerate a car from 0 to 300 km/h with a chronometer in hand? Pagani’s 0-100 km/h numbers are among the best; besides, this brand stands out from the rest in its vision of the automobile as an art form.

As might be expected, the most expensive car models in each brand’s inventory have similar characteristics; in addition to impressive performance, they come in a limited series of less than 20 units and boast stunning body upgrades. Here is some of the proof.

Price

2015 Koenigsegg One:1: $7,200,000.Not only the most expensive Keonigsegg but the highest-priced car on the market (as of November 2020), this example is the only right-hand drive car of the six One:1 vehicles produced. The car also can be converted to LHD by the Koenigsegg factory. The One:1 is considered the world’s first megacar, as its power output was evaluated at 1 megawatt (equal to 1,360 PS or 1,341 hp).

2019 Bugatti Chiron 110 Ans:$4,629,850.The 110 Ans Bugatti is a limited edition variant of the Chiron Sport developed to celebrate 110 years of Bugatti. The car features remarkable carbon fiber bodywork finished in matte Steel Blue color with a matte black exhaust system–and the colors of the French flag on the wing mirrors, fuel filler, and on the rear wing.

2020 Pagani Huayra BC Roadster: $4,727,858.The BC version of Huayra is named after Benny Caiola, a friend of Horacio Pagani and the first Pagani customer. The Huayra BC has an upgraded front bumper with a front splitter and winglets, deeper side skirts, and a wider air diffuser on the rear bumper with a larger rear wing. All are used to optimize downforce and drag.

2015 Koenigsegg One:1: top speed – 450 km/h (279.6 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 3.3, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 11.9. The One:1 developed in 2014 is still one of the world’s fastest street-legal cars; its maximum speed is beaten only by the newest McLaren and Aston Martin models that will become available in 2021-2022. The performance is driven by an astonishing 1:1 hp-to-kg curb weight ratio that previously was thought to be impossible for road-legal sports cars.

2019 Bugatti Chiron 110 Ans: top speed – 420 km/h (261 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 2.4, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 13.6.According to Bugatti officials, the Chiron’s top speed is electronically limited to 420 km/h (261 mph) for safety reasons.

2020 Pagani Huayra BC Roadster: top speed – 370 km/h (230 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 3.3, 0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 17.8.The BC roadster has the best performance characteristics of all the Huayra models, thanks to its improved version of the standard Huayra engine and a better power output of 800 PS (588 kW; 789 hp).

4. The best and most affordable: 2005 Koenigsegg CCR vs. 2008 Bugatti Veyron vs. 2014 Pagani Huayra

Finally, let’s examine the best buys among relatively affordable models. How much performance and customization can one-two million dollars buy, when it comes to hypercars?

Price

2005 Koenigsegg CCR:$1,359,259.This CCR is the 19th car Koenigsegg produced, and one of a very few examples that are still in the original, unpainted condition. The car has 26,500 km (16466 mi) on the odometer, and is well-maintained: accident-free with only one owner.

2008 Bugatti Veyron: $1,048,189.A stunning Veyron in beige-over-black body paint, with 24,109 km (14,981 mi.) on the odometer is for sale in Dubai. The car is in perfect condition, and its white interior is definitely worth seeing.

2014 Pagani Huayra: $2,374,014.Yet another Huayra. As Pagani has an exceptionally limited number of cars available on the resale market, the price range is not as wide as that of other supercar brands. But this bronze example looks equally impressive and has only 560 km (348 mi.) of mileage.

2008 Bugatti Veyron: top speed – 407 km/h (253 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) – 2.46 sec,0-300 km/h (186 mph) – 16.7 sec.In 2005, Bugatti Veyron took Koenigsegg CCR’s crown of the world’s fastest cars with this model featuring a top speed over 400 km/h (250 mph).
